One of the main attractions of the Novosibirsk region is the largest lake in Western Siberia – Lake Chany. It is located in the southwestern part of the region, 300 km from Novosibirsk on the Baraba lowland. The Baraba lowland is a vast lake region, where fresh and salt lakes are located. This is the most popular fishing spot in the Novosibirsk region. Chany is a salty, drainless lake. Its maximum depth reaches 12 m. It is connected by a canal to the Malaye Chany lake. Around these two lakes are smaller lakes, together they form the Chanovskaya lake system, which is a unique wetland in Siberia. This area is an important place on the migration route of lake waterfowl. Ecotourists will find more than 250 species of birds on Chany. The maximum species diversity of birds is observed from April to October. At this time, you can see swans, geese, coots, river ducks, diving ducks, waders, gulls, terns, cranes, as well as such rare birds as avocets, stilt, black-headed gull, white-tailed eagle and greave. Basically, they go to Lake Chany for hunting, fishing, treatment and ecotourism. A little to the east in the Zdvinsky district spread state landscape-biological reserve “Chanovsky”. The total area of the reserve is 1.2 thousand hectares. Most of the reserve is occupied by wetlands, where numerous ecosystems of the Baraba forest-steppe are protected. Migratory routes of many species of birds also run along the reserve. Also on the territory of the reserve, 2 rivers merge – Chulym and Kargat, which feed the lake Small Chany. In the deltas of these rivers are found: roach, perch, ide, crucian carp, carp, pike perch, peled and pike. Their waters are a place of mass spawning of fish.
According to Recipesinthebox, Lake Chany has mineral springs and silt mud extraction sites. The mineral waters “Karachinskaya”, “Dovolenskaya” and “Duplenskaya” are widely known. Treatment in local sanatoriums is carried out with the help of sulphide-silt mud, rich in water-soluble salts with a low content of organic substances, which is formed at the bottom of salt lakes, and chloride-hydrocarbonate sodium mineral water. Each sanatorium offers mud therapy, balneotherapy, electrotherapy, phototherapy, heat therapy, laser therapy, inhalation therapy, hydrotherapy, baths, massage, Charcot’s shower, circular shower, and physiotherapy exercises. In the Chanovsky district, 13 km from the village of Chany near Lake Karachi, there is a sanatorium “Karachi”.
