Cape Verde. Prior to the local elections in May, Cape Verde introduced for the first time a biometric voter register based on the fingerprints of voters who could be read in the polling stations. In the election, the opposition party Movimento Para a Democracia (Democracy Movement, MPA) strengthened its position ahead of the next parliamentary elections in 2011.
After four years of negotiations, Cape Verde was admitted to the World Trade Organization (WTO) in May. Cabo Verde has a healthy and stable economy following African conditions with estimated growth in 2008 of about 7.7 percent, well above the African average. Tourism is an increasingly important source of income.

Cape Verde opens its borders

Cape Verde is reopening its borders. To enter the country, visitors must present a pcr test that shows that they are not infected with covid-19. Air traffic with the outside world is taken up again, and ships, including cruise ships, will be allowed to call at the country’s ports. To date, Cape Verde has had 6,700 confirmed cases of covid-19 and 71 people have died from the disease.

According to Countryaah reports, the population of Cape Verde in 2008 was 492,543, ranking number 171 in the world. The population growth rate was 1.250% yearly, and the population density was 122.2467 people per km2.
